One of the new natural Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Iguazú falls amazes for its scale and power. Not only one of the largest waterfalls in the world, but also one with easy accessibility.
One of the planet’s most awe-inspiring sights, Iguazú Falls is simply breathtaking. A visit is a jaw-dropping, visceral experience, and the power and noise of the cascades – a chain of hundreds of waterfalls nearly 3 km in extension – live forever in the memory. An added benefit is the setting: the falls lie split between Brazil and Argentina in a large expanse of national park, much of its rainforest teeming with unique flora and fauna.
Enjoy the stunning views of the falls, walking through the multiple walkways allowing you to get up close with this magnificent spectacle of nature. One of the features of this tour is the Devil’s Throat – the highest of Iguazu’s almost 300 waterfalls. For adrenaline-junkies, jet boat tours are available where you go right underneath the falls – just be sure you don’t mind getting wet.
As most of the waterfalls are located in Argentina, half a day on the Brazilian side will be enough. There are still many walkways that take you close to the action, but you also get a great overview with strategically placed view points. You can also choose, from this side, to go on a helicopter ride.
Great Adventure combines the very essence of Iguazú National Park: the jungle and the waterfalls. You will depart from the visitor centre in trucks specially designed for the terrain. After 5 km you will arrive to Puerto Macuco, where you will board the boat. Sailing for 6 km the Lower Iguazú River, you will arrive to the waterfalls with views of Devil’s Throat. The tour ends in San Martin Island, after one hour and twenty minutes, where passengers may continue to enjoy the landscape joining the runways system of the Lower Circuit.
If you are lucky enough to be in Iguazú during full moon (or two days before or after), you can go on a nocturnal tour of the waterfalls. Supervised by the Argentine National Park rangers, this tour will give you a view of Devil’s Throat with the silvery light of the moon, while listening to the sounds of the jungle and the wildlife. This is a unique and intimate experience.
