Repositioning Trips

Many of the Antarctic operators also run voyages in the Arctic regions. At the end of the Antarctic season, when the ships reposition from the southern to the northern hemisphere, companies offer trips that, for the length, tend to be good value for money. Although these trips have a fair amount of sea days, you’ll have the opportunity to visit some of the most remote islands in the world, such as Tristan da Cunha and Gough Island.

South Georgia And/Or Falkland Islands (Malvinas)

Both of these locations exude wildlife. On the Falklands, you will be able to visit black-browed albatross colonies and rockhopper penguin rookeries, while in South Georgia you will be blessed with king penguin colonies (up to 300,000 penguins). Most of these voyages visit Antarctica, but some itineraries visit only South Georgia and/or the Falkland Islands.

Weddell Sea

Located on the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula, the Weddell Sea is probably the least visited place on the whole Peninsula. The vast amount of sea ice leads to increased wildlife encounters. Some very specific voyages in this area aim to reach the northernmost emperor penguin rookery in Antarctica, in the south of Snow Hill Island.
